“The Essence of Chinatown” Photo Contest
Celebrating the 71st anniversary of Chinatown, June 27, 2009
In celebration of the anniversary of New Chinatown, the public is invited to send in photographs of (1) buildings/objects/landscapes; or (2) people that they deem capture “the essence of Chinatown.” There is no entry fee and each contestant may submit up to 5 entries in either category. All entries will be judged by a panel comprising professional photographers and sponsor representatives. Winning entries will be displayed at the June 27th Chinatown 71st Anniversary Party which will take place from 7:00 to 11:00pm in Central Plaza. First place winners will receive $300 cash plus $200 in gift certificates. Second place winners will receive $100 plus $100 in gift certificates. Third place winners will win $100 in gift certificates. Prizes will be awarded at the June 27th Chinatown 71st Anniversary Party and will be announced in the Sing Tao Daily.
All entries must be received by June 22, 2009 at Chinatown BID or Sing Tao Daily.
Contest Rules:
* Open to the public. Employees and immediate family members of all involved parties (organizers, judges, and sponsors) are not eligible.
* Two categories for entry: (1) Buildings/Objects/Landscapes; and (2) People. Entrant may summit up to five entries. No entry fee.
* Photographs must measure at least 8”x 10” on paper, and be un-mounted and unframed.
* All entries must be accompanied by a completed application form. It is suggested—but not required—that photographs be identified with a date taken, title, brief description of the moment captured, and the name(s) of the people in the photo, if known.
* All entries must be received by June 22, 2009 at either Sing Tao Daily (17059 Green Drive, City of Industry, CA 91745) or the L.A. Chinatown Business Improvement office (727 N. Broadway, Suite 208, Los Angeles, CA 90012).
* Photographs must have been taken within the past 12 months and may not previously have won an award in any other photo contests.
* Photographs must be a single work of original material taken by the contest
entrant. Images must comply with “National Geographic” digital standards.
* Entrants reserve the copyright of their photographs, however, Sing Tao Daily and the BID will have the right to display, print or use the photographs for in-house promotional purposes only and will give full credit to the contest/entrant.
Contest Prizes:
* First, second, and third place winners will be chosen in the 2 categories. There may also be some honorable mentions.
* Winners will win prizes as follows:
* First Place: $300 cash and $200 in gift certificates
* Second Place: $100 cash and $100 in gift certificates
* Third Place: $100 in gift certificates.
* Award presentation ceremony to be held in Chinatown on June 27, 2009 and winning entries will be on display that day.
Judging:
* All entries will be judged by panel of judges including representatives from Sing Tao Daily, the Chinatown Business Improvement District, Mark Comon of Paul’s Photo in Torrance.
* Decisions of the judges are final and binding.
