On Saturday, October 3, from 5:30 to 10:00 p.m., Chinatown hosts the Southland’s oldest annual mid-Autumn Moon Festival featuring cultural entertainment for the whole family. New this year, a competitive 5K run, and a non-competitive 5K walk and a 25 mile Fun Bike Ride will take place in conjunction with the festival. Event routes will start and finish in Chinatown where entertainment and moon cake samples will be offered free to festival goers.
The Shaolin Warriors of Chinatown, Chinese acrobats, and storytellers will be featured during the afternoon hours, followed by a demonstration of moon cake making, and finally, a performance explaining the origins of the Moon Festival by the 2009 Miss L.A. Chinatown Queen and Court at dusk. The Griffith Observatory, which is making telescopes available throughout the day, will demonstrate how to get the best views of the sun and the moon. Live music will be featured on stage until 10:00pm.
Festivities are free to the public and will run from 5:30 to 10:00 p.m. in Chinatown’s historic Central Plaza (943-951 N. Broadway Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012). Run, walk and bike ride entry fees apply. Parking around the area is plentiful. We encourage the public to use the convenient Metro Gold Line; exit at the Chinatown Station.
